Grok Gadgets: Home Assistant
On this page
Check what Home Assistant's own MCP server would offer your Grok Bot. ha-probe lists its
tools, resources and prompts without ever calling a tool or reading a resource. Experimental
alpha: real homes and Grok Bot are not verified yet. See the
project status.
Independent project, not affiliated with SpaceXAI, xAI or Home Assistant.
Quickstart
You need Python 3.11+, Git and uv. No home, account or token.
git clone https://github.com/adidshaft/grok-gadgets-home-assistant.git
cd grok-gadgets-home-assistant
uv sync --frozen
uv run ha-probe --fixture fixtures/assist.json
Expected result (other fixed flags omitted):
{
"evidence": "fixture tested",
"tool_count": 2,
"resource_count": 1,
"prompt_count": 1,
"tool_calls_performed": 0,
"resource_reads_performed": 0,
"grok_verified": false,
"hardware_verified": false
}
Next: prepare a Home Assistant test user.
Why a probe
Home Assistant already has its own MCP server, so Grok Gadgets does not wrap your home. The probe answers one question safely: what would a Grok Bot see if it connected? It lists tools, resources and prompts, and never calls a tool or reads a resource.
- Discovery only: redirects refused, responses capped at 4 MiB.
- Household names and descriptions are hidden in the output.
- Fixture output says
"evidence": "fixture tested", never a real-home result.
Try it on your home
The setup guide walks through a test user with Control Home Assistant off, local discovery, token scope and cleanup. A Home Assistant token is a full user credential. Never paste it into chat or an issue, and revoke it after testing.
Grok Bot today
Connecting a Grok Bot needs a reachable HTTPS URL with compatible authentication; check the
remote-route gate before you expose a home server. This
package adds no home-control tools and no event-triggered Bot tasks. Native Bot
compatibility is tracked as HA-004; see also the
hosting FAQ.
